Bio
Since 2014, Alexandru Ciorobea has been Development Manager for VYPL S.r.o in the Czech Republic where he is in charge of implementation and coordination of business development, new business&new markets, implementation of the marketing strategy and new investments and technology. Also, since 2012, Alexandru has held the positions of President and CEO of “Together” (DBA: Together for Development) – USA where he coordinates the overall activity, oversees current projects, identifies new project opportunities and establishes new contracts and partnerships.
From 2007-12, Alexandru served as 3rd and 2nd Secretary with Romania’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, focusing on political affairs and human rights, working on issues on the agenda of both the UN Security Council (the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, children in armed conflicts, women, peace and security, protection of civilians in armed conflicts) and the UN General Assembly (children’s and women’s rights, humanitarian security, discrimination, democracy, electoral and rule of law issues, cooperation between the civil society and the UN). Prior to joining Romania’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Alexandru negotiated a series of UNGA resolutions on intolerance and social development on behalf of the European Union.
From 2007-10, Alexandru served as Vice-president of the Committee on NGOs of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC). From 2008-10 he served as a human rights expert to the Permanent Representative of Romania in the Bureau of the Executive Board of UNICEF. He also served as a rapporteur on behalf of UNICEF and ECOSOC.
Alexandru’s diplomatic career began in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs where from 2004-07 he served as 3rd Secretary in the United States and Canada Division, working on the strategic issues of the bilateral agenda. In 2007, Alexandru spent three months on the Division for OSCE, Council of Europe and Human Rights where he focused on human rights issues.
Alexandru holds a MA in Anglophone Studies from the Metropolitan University of Prague and a BA in public administration and administrative sciences from the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. Alexandru took a series of courses at the Diplomatic Institute of Romania, at the European College for International and Security Studies, at the US Department of Defense and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Alexandru is fluent in English and Spanish and advanced in French and Italian.
