Bio
Since 2014, George is the Executive Director of Administration at Yamanashi Gakuin University, International College of Liberal Arts, Kofu. Prior to this position he worked in educational management at the Osaka University and the University of Chicago. He also serves as Founder and Editor of the Romanian Language Database of Japanese Studies.
George has teaching experience at the University of Chicago and in the languages and history departments of the DePaul University, Chicago and ?saka Denki Ts?shin University, Japan.
He is Founder and General Manager of Creativities Group, an NGO offering low-income college and high-school students the opportunity to experience living, studying and working abroad. From 2008-12, he co-founded and managed the Toyota Global Creative Network, a worldwide project aimed at building a higher education network to aid with Toyota’s corporate message, global outreach, brand and philosophy for the 21st century.
George served as founder and editor of the Romanian Journal of Japanese Studies. He wrote over 600 articles, reviews and interviews in various cultural, scientific and general interest Romanian and US publications as well as professional articles and academic papers in English, Japanese and Romanian.
He participated in a number of conferences in Japan, Italy, Romania and the US and translated from Japanese to Romanian and English books, articles in periodicals, and reviews. In 2010 he was nominated by the Association of Romanian Professional Writers for Best Translation of the Year in Romania.
George is a member of Society of South East European Studies, Society of Romanian Studies, Association for Asian Studies; a founder of Romanian Students Organization, University of Chicago and of Braila: 2021 European Capital of Culture Initiative and a Board Member of Chicago Free School the Journal of Research in Gender Studies. Was awarded the National Award for Cultural Magazines by the Romanian Ministry of Culture and the Bob Adams Memorial Award by the Center for East Asian Studies, the University of Chicago.
He was a Doctoral Researcher at the International Graduate Research Center, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto. He was awarded a number of Fellowships and Assistanships, from the Japan Society for Promotion of Science, the University of Pittsburgh, and from the University of Chicago.
George holds a PhD in Japanese Studies from the University of Chicago, a MA in East Asian Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, a MA in East European Studies and a BA in Japanese/Romanian Studies from the University of Bucharest.George is fluent in English, Japanese and French.
