Bio
Leyla is Civil Affairs Officer with the United Nations Mission of Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH) where she does cross-mission representation, monitoring and facilitation at local level, support to confidence building, conflict management and reconciliation, and support to restoration and extension of state authority. Prior, she worked with ACTED Haiti as an Officer on Audit and Internal Compliance. From September to December 2014 she was an intern with PwC where she focused on marketing, communication and business development. During her five months internship with the Institute for National Security Studies in Israel in 2014 Leyla compiled several comprehensive databases on relationship between signing of peace treaties and territorial gain after war and conducted research on weapons of mass destruction, jihadi networks in the Levant and Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Her research resulted in a collaboration with Foreign Policy Romania
From May to November 2013, she was an intern for the Institut Français des Relations Internationales, France she wrote articles on Syrian jihadi groups for the Center’s blog and gathered information on security policies and military capabilities in Europe and the Middle East. She also edited three of the center’s publications and then measured their impact on the targeted audience. From March to May 2012, Leyla was an intern with the Romanian Embassy in Madrid where she drafted daily press reviews on economic and political issues and researched Spanish public policies of interest for Romania.
Leyla holds a MA in International Security and a BA in Political Science, both from SciencesPo Paris. During her BA program she was an exchange student at the Complutense University in Spain. As a Junior Ambassador at the 2014 Munich Security Conference Leyla authored an article on the long-term impact on NATO of declining European defense budgets. She is proficient in English and French and fluent in Spanish.
