Bio
Since June 2012, Radu has been CEO and brand ambassador for Smartlink Communications, a strategic communications, data visualization, political campaigns and public affairs consultancy. He trains politicians and staff (at international, national and local level) on issues dealing with media relations. He is a visiting professor on political analysis and political leadership at the University of Bucharest’s Journalism and Science of Communications Faculty.
From December 2014 to June 2015, Radu served as Honorary Advisor to the Romanian Prime Minister, on foreign media and political strategy. In 2014 he was one of the 15 Members of NATO‘s Emerging Leaders Working Group where he did advisory work on the future of the Transatlantic Bond and NATO.
From 2010-12, he was based in Brussels where he lobbied the European Parliament on behalf of Google, worked as communications manager for EURACTIV, and served as press officer for the Romanian Social-Democrat Delegation in the European Parliament. From 2006-07, he was an editor on EU Affairs for the Romanian National News Agency. From 2004-05, Radu served in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he worked on regional cooperation and bilateral relations.
Radu is a trainer and motivational speaker, on issues ranging from communications (political and corporate) to European Union policies and international affairs. He speaks at summer schools (UN Summer School 2014 in Bucharest), university events, and TV and radio debates.
Radu writes on national and international politics, communications, EU affairs, IT and energy in both Brussels and Bucharest based publications and has been quoted in the foreign media, as an analyst, by The Economist, The Financial Times, The Guardian, AFP, AP, La Libre Belgique, XINHUA.
He is the coordinator of the Leadership section in the book “Romania‘s New Wave” and written two articles in the book “Dilemmas of EU communication”.
In October 2015, Radu enrolled in a PhD program at the Romanian National School of Political and Administrative Studies, with a focus on Russian Propaganda during the Hybrid War. Radu holds a BA in Law from the University of Bucharest with a thesis on international settlement of disputes. He holds a MA in European Union Law and a MA in Security Studies from the University of Bucharest. He underwent extensive training in sustainable energy finance at the summer academy of the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, on negotiations techniques for the oil and gas industry at the London Energy Institute, and on negotiations from the Harvard Law School.
