Bio
Dr Vintila has been a member of the Scientific Board of Strategikon since March 2016. Since 2009, Sergiu Vintila has been senior policy advisor to Professor Ioan Mircea Pascu MEP, Vice-President of the European Parliament, Vice Chair Committee on Foreign Affairs, European Parliament, Brussels and Strasbourg. Since 1990, he has taught various courses, mostly for postgraduate students, in International Relations Theory, Security and Strategic Studies, Transatlantic Relations, Gender and Globalisation, Neorealism and Alternative Perspectives, Negotiation and Conflict Management, International Organisations, Main Issues of International Politics at the National School of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA), University of Bucharest and University “Dimitrie Cantemir” in Bucharest, at the NATO School, Oberammergau, Germany and the Master in European Governance, University of Luxembourg.
Dr Vintila has been a Member of the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) since 2008, founding member of the Romanian Society of Political Sciences (vice-president 1999-2001), an associate fellow of the Institute of Political Studies in Luxembourg since 2014. An alumnus of the Babes Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca, graduating Magna Cum Laude in Philosophy and History in 1990, Sergiu Vintila holds MA and postgraduate degrees in International Relations, Government and Strategic Studies from King’s College London, SNSPA, University of Manchester, Institute of American Studies – University of London and the Royal College of Defence Studies, London. PhD in Political Sciences/International Relations at the National School of Political Studies and Public Administration. Author and co-author of several books, academic textbooks and studies.
Dr Vintila’s professional career started as researcher at the Romanian Academy. He held positions of lecturer, Assistant and Associate Professor until 2002 and since 2006 at the SNSPA and, since 2013 at the University of Luxembourg. Between 2001 and 2009 he held senior management positions in the Ministry of Defence of Romania, including as Defence Advisor – minister counsellor, Permanent Delegation of Romania to NATO, Brussels and Director of the Defence Policies Directorate in the Romanian MoD. Sergiu is married and has two children.
