Bio
Retired Brigadier General Stefan Zaharie Pop serves as a Chief Adviser of the Board of Directors of the Romanian Accreditation Association, RENAR, Bucharest, a NGO meant to be an effective tool of the Romanian economy in the European integration process. Also, he is a university lecturer at the “Dimitrie Cantemir” University of Bucharest, Faculty of International Economic Relations, where he teaches Conflict management in international organizations and International law. Prior, he served as Deputy Inspector General for the General Inspectorate for Immigration.
Mr. Pop held various positions at the Ministry of Interior, first from 2003 to 2011, both as State Secretary and as diplomatic counselor in Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, and at UNODC. From 2011 to 2012, Mr. Pop served as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Consulate General of Romania in Munich and as a director general at the Directorate General for Legal and Institutional Relations. Between 1982-2003, he was a police officer, holding positions within the Militia Inspectorate of Bucharest and the Police Inspectorate of Sibiu County. He holds one PhD in Law from the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Police Academy, Bucharest, and another PhD in Security Studies, Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor.
Mr. Pop is a graduate of the “George C. Marshall” European Center for Security Studies, Germany; the National College for Home Affairs, “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Police Academy, Bucharest; and holds a BA in Law and one in Psychology. He is a physical security risk assessor, a certified mediator and a certified trainer in anti-corruption and conflict negotiation. Throughout his career, Retired Brigadier Pop has been actively involved in social and community activities, serving as president in various associations, and is the author of different books, articles and papers.
